Virat Kohli Shocks Fans with Retirement Announcement After Leading India to T20 World Cup Victory!

Virat Kohli has announced his retirement from T20 International cricket following India’s victory over South Africa in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup in Barbados on Saturday.

On Saturday, star batsman Virat Kohli announced his retirement from T20 Internationals after leading India to their second T20 World Cup win.

Kohli was instrumental in the final, scoring a vital 76 off 59 balls, hitting two sixes and six fours. His performance lifted India from a precarious position of 34 for three to a strong total of 176 for seven, securing a seven-run victory over South Africa.

After being named Man of the Match, Kohli shared that this was his final T20I match for India.

This was my last T20 World Cup; this is exactly what we wanted to achieve,” Kohli told the broadcaster following India’s first global tournament win in 11 years. “One day you feel like you can’t get a run and then this happens. God is great. It was a now-or-never situation. This was my last T20 game for India. We wanted to lift that cup.

Kohli confirmed his retirement when asked if this was his official announcement: “Yes, I have, and it was an open secret. I would have announced it even if we had lost. It’s time for the next generation to take the T20 game forward.

Reflecting on the long wait for an ICC tournament win, Kohli said, “It’s been a long wait for us. You look at someone like Rohit (Sharma), he’s played nine T20 World Cups and this is my sixth. He deserves it. It’s been difficult to hold back emotions, and I think it’s going to sink in later. It’s an amazing day, and I’m thankful.
